I’ve always been interested in how people interact with technology and I currently work for Jobsite as a Designer for their websites and mobile applications. I’m a geek at heart and when I’m not designing - I’m playing computer games.
We asked Gavin:
How would you rate your own financial awareness?
On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest I’d say I was a 9. I know what the balance each of my accounts are and what bills to expect each month, but every now and then I forget to account for my TV licence.
When it comes to your finances, do you live for today or plan for tomorrow?
I like to plan. Setting a plan is easy. Following it is even harder. Every now an then I have a habit of turning a blind eye to my bank balance because it’s easier to avoid knowing what trouble you’re in than dealing with it; but sooner or later you have to face it.
What is your attitude to financial risk?
I like to think I’m smart about my finances but I’m human just like everyone else, and I still have the urge to spend money when I know I shouldn’t.
Do you have a golden rule when it comes to your finances?
One simple rule. Spend less than what you make.
How important, do you think it is to start financial education in schools?
I think it’s crucial. We live in a culture where the perception is that it’s ok to be in debt and if we want to change that we need to inspire our kids as they will ultimately be the ones that shape our future.
