When I was asked to do a blog I immediately thought of "Coffee with Martin" - so I will gently ease you into "a chai with Harish".

Being proactive, my car insurance company sent me a renewal quote recently for £436 for my Smart Roadster. This was slightly less than last year and what with inflation I thought this was probably reasonable.

Having looked at a price comparison website the year before and finding this company to be the cheapest I was ready to phone in to hand over my credit card details but as I was about to I thought I would just check my details on their website.

To my surprise once I entered the exact details and clicked "calculate" the website quote only came to £380!

I quickly picked up the phone to complain - why was the renewal quote a lot higher than the website. The gentleman replied "sorry the calculation is quite technical and the rates change almost daily." He couldn't explain the difference but was very apologetic and managed to renew my car insurance using the cheaper figure.

Next time I might go the extra mile and go back to checking the insurance company's website.
