I go to our local coffee shop (which will remain unnamed, but it’s the one that does the best espresso this side of Milan) to order my regular Chai latte. Having a loyalty card means that if I pay for nine teas I get the 10th free. Of course, whilst the ninth tea will be regular size, I would order my 10th as large as possible, thinking I would be cheekily getting one over the coffee shop.
Unfortunately this is not the case as I have found out recently. My nine regular Chai lattes are always roughly only 85% full meaning that even with my free mega-sized Chai latte the coffee shop still gains from my loyalty. I have since stopped being loyal to coffee shops as there is no such thing as a free coffee (or tea in my case).
If only the same rules applied to coffee shops as they do to pubs. Dare I say there must be a case for some investigative journalism here, care of Daily Mail or Mail on Sunday?
