Let me explain before your mind runs away with this! This was during the 1990’s housing crash. I bought my house for around £100,000 in June 1989 virtually all on borrowed money. I then found myself with a property worth only £70,000 during the lowest point where, through my marriage in 1990, my wife inherited my STD (Yes I am talking about 'Sexually Transmitted Debt'!).

Lucky for me my debt only lasted for a few years and I haven't had to worry about a re-occurrence since but it does make me wonder if, what with the current government piling on various forms of debts especially on the students, we are going to see further outbreaks of STD in the coming years.

I guess my advice would be to check before you say “I do” at the altar to ensure that your prospective spouse has not been financially promiscuous. Otherwise you may have to pay the price for years to come for their financial infidelity.

The even scarier part is that many people have STD and don't even know it!
