I remember playing Monopoly as a child and loving it. My son must be following in my footsteps as he'll quite happily put away his Nintendo DS to indulge in a game of Monopoly.
When I was small, I would never buy anything, preferring to save my money instead (obviously not a risk taker!). If ever I was in the position of buying houses I would make sure that I put one on each property in a set until I had four on each (it didn't happen very often!) so that I could start to buy hotels.
I did this the other day, diligently placing one house on each square. My son asked why I was doing this and why didn't I put four houses on one square and then I could get a hotel quicker. Do you know, I had never thought of that - although I do believe it is against the rules.
I'm sure this must say something about our attitude to risk.
The other thing he's taught me is how to rob the bank so that you always end up a millionaire!
