At a recent family gathering to celebrate my mum's 59th birthday I ended up giving her an unexpected birthday present - an extra 5 months at work!

She was moaning at the little pension she was likely to get from the state next September when she turned 60. I didn't say anything at the time but a little later when everyone had gone home I explained that the changes to the state pension age for women affected her and in fact she wouldn't start receiving her state pension until after her 60th birthday.  In fact 5 months and 9 days after her 60th birthday.

She was not best pleased; I dread to think what she is going to get me for my birthday!
