The policy document

When you take out insurance you will be given a policy document which contains the terms and conditions. You may also get a shorter policy summary.

Make sure you read the policy documents. This might seem straight-forward enough but a lot of people wait until an event occurs before they decide to have a look through their policy document and by then it's too late - your policy may not cover that particular event.

If you're especially worried about a particular event have a browse through the policy document even before you take out the policy so you can have some peace of mind if that event does occur.

Top tips

  • Always read the small print and ask questions if you're unsure or don't understand anything.

  • Make sure you check what you're covered and not covered for.
