As the old saying goes, there's nothing sure in life except death and taxes. Most of us have to pay tax, whether we like it or not.
If you understand the situations in which you have to pay tax, you'll be prepared and your tax bill won't come as a surprise. You might even find that there are ways of reducing the amount of tax you pay.
We've tried to make tax less taxing by covering the different types of tax you may have to pay, situations where you don't have to pay tax and what it means to be working and paying tax.
HMRC (HM Revenue & Customs) is responsible for collecting taxes through your local tax office. Each of us has a duty to make sure that we pay whatever tax is due from us.
