Giving to charity

You can give to charity through payroll giving or gift aid as a way of reducing the amount of tax you pay as well as donating to good causes at the same time.

Payroll giving lets you make donations to charity directly from your salary. Your donations are taken from your salary before income tax is worked out and deducted, so you only pay tax on what's left.

You can maximise your donations to charity through gift aid. Gift aid increases the value of donations to charities by allowing them to reclaim basic rate tax on your gift. If you pay higher rate tax you can claim tax relief on your donations.
