Although it's hard to believe, the tax man does let you have something for nothing. If you're aware of the opportunities available you may be able to reduce your tax bill - you can even do this at the same time as donating to a good cause by giving to charity.
Some tax allowances are available to you automatically, like the personal allowance, but you will have to claim for other allowances and reliefs, like tax credits, yourself.
